Hope
Valley Bowling Club is situated in peaceful surroundings beside the Hope Valley Lutheran
Retirement Village .Vehicle access is via a private road which runs along
side the village, the entrance to which is
opposite the Foodland shopping centre next to the Bremen Hotel on Grand Junction Road.
(200 meters west of Valley Road). There is also pedestrian access from Deakin
Avenue, parallel to the bowling greens themselves.
The club has two santa anna
greens and a third green is presently under construction. At least one green is kept open
for most of the year allowing maximum usage, be it on a social basis or for pennants.
There is a large, airy club house with a fully licensed bar and large kitchen. These allow
for many social events to be held at the club making it a place not only to for the
bowling fraternity to 'do their thing', but also for other groups to hold events and
functions ranging from quiz nights to line dancing.
During the winter season,
the club also hosts indoor pennants and social games with a strong following by both
men and lady bowlers. There are generally three mats available for use by those who feel
the urge to keep their arm swinging throughout the year.
Experienced and new bowlers alike
are welcome at any time of the year with the younger bowler gradually becoming a much more
common sight. The club often has school groups 'giving it a go', dispelling the myth that
the game of lawnbowls is a pastime purely for the 'oldies'.
